What are the state requirements for hairstylists in Arkansas?
To be licensed to cut hair in Arkansas you’ll need to meet the 1,500 hours of education required by the Arkansas Department of Health. There are a number of hair schools and licensed beauty education providers throughout the state that can help you earn your license.
There are a few basic requirements that must be met as you apply to a hair design program:
Be at least 16 years of age
Complete at least 2 years of high school
Once you’ve been accepted to and completed an accredited program, you’ll need to submit an application along with a certificate proving you’ve completed your program. There are two separate tests you’ll need to pass, the practical and written exams.If you manage to pass both, congratulations, you’re eligible to practice as a licensed hair stylist in Arkansas.

The written exam is provided by PSI Services, and you can register for the exam using their automated services. There are multiple locations throughout the state where you can go to take the exam. There’s a $60 fee for taking the exam. If you fail the written portion of the exam, you can schedule another test and try again.
