State Requirements for Barber Licensing in California

California requires the following steps for applicants seeking a Barber license. These are;

  • Complete a Barber school or apprenticeship program
  • Apply for a Barber license
  • Pass the License examination
  • Renew the license as required by the state

The state of California requires aspiring Barbers need to complete 1,000 hours of a school program or 3,200 hours of an apprenticeship program. Applicants must be 16 years old and have completed 10th grade in school. They must also possess a valid Social Security number and have a program sponsor for an apprenticeship.
