State requirements for esthetician licensing in New York:

  • Must be at least 17 years old.
  • At least six hundred (600) hours of combined classroom and practical training from an approved esthetician school.
  • This license will need to be renewed after four (4) years.

Required skills and classes: Students must undergo a 600 training course which is comprised of the following:

  • Professional esthetician qualities
  • History of esthetics
  • Role of the esthetician
  • Sterilization, disinfection, and sanitation procedures
  • Anatomy, physiology, and nutrition
  • Cell, tissue, organ, and body system structure and functions
  • Physical and chemical agents

State licensing exam: Applicants must first register with the NYS License Center. Once registered; examinees will receive details regarding the location, date, and time off the said exams. Both the written and practical exams will cost $15 each.

    • Makeup application and cleanup
