State Requirements for Cosmetology Licensing in Idaho
If you’re interested in working as a licensed cosmetologist, there are four main steps to take:
Graduate from an accredited cosmetology school
Apply for a license with the Idaho Barber and Cosmetology Services Licensing Board and pay a $25 application fee
Pass the state board exams
Renew your license every 2 years and pay all related fees
If you’re interested in becoming a cosmetologist in Idaho, you should know a few things. First, in Idaho, you’ll need to attend a cosmetology program and complete a minimum of 2000 hours of education or 4000 hours as an apprentice.

The exam is a two-part test covering theoretical and practical concepts related to cosmetology. The first part of the exam is a written test, while the second part is a hands-on practical exam. To pass, you must score 75.00 on both parts of the exam. The test is administered by DL Roope Administrations and overseen by the NIC.
The exams are designed to assess your knowledge and skills. You’ll be tested on your ability to provide facial treatment, perform hair removal, and give a massage. You’ll also need to show your knowledge of infection control, safety procedures, and more.
